Financial Aid and Tuition Costs

Scholarship support is provided directly to some students by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Killam Foundation through Dalhousie, by companies, and by other agencies, both national and international.  Students are encouraged to apply for external support whenever possible (for a list of some external funding sources please visit http://dalgrad.dal.ca/currentstudents/funding/).

Students without external scholarship support are awarded Dalhousie Graduate Stipends from funds which come to the Department from the University and from individual faculty member's research grants. For the 2011-12 academic year, the minimum Graduate Stipend for full-time Oceanography students is $19,000 Cdn. International students receive an additional sum on top of their stipend to offset University differential fees.

Opportunities exist for students to earn extra support by working as Graduate Assistants.  The department also has available each year a limited number of positions for teaching assistantships.

For the approved fee schedule, please refer to Student Accounts.
