Prerequisites: Oceanography 5120A and normally 5311A
An advanced class for graduate students in Physical Oceanography and Atmospheric Science that studies the basic equations governing rotating geophysical flows, plus applications. Topics include geostrophy, conservation of potential vorticity, quasi-geostrophic dynamics, waves of frequency ƒ, response to surface forcing (steady and unsteady), baroclinic/barotropic instability, quasi and semi-geostrophic frontogenesis, and tropical dynamics.
